Description: This course is designed for the instructor with Level 2 Certification, experienced in the intermediate zone, who has taught or observed some classes in the expert zone, and wants to see if he/she is ready for the next level.
WHO: This course will benefit all instructors who want to improve their ability to teach and ski at a higher level. If you feel you may be ready to take a level 3 exam but are unsure of your readiness, the format will “test you” and “guide you.” If you feel you are ready to teach in the intermediate/advanced zones but are looking for a clearer picture of what that actually entails, this course may also benefit you. This course is designed not just for the instructor who wants to see where he/she is at in terms of certification, but also where he/she is at in terms of overall professional development.
WHAT: At the conclusion of this course, the participant will:
Know where he/she stands relative to the 5 fundamentals of good skiing.
Know what it takes to be a Level 3 instructor according to our National Standards
Know where his/her skiing fits in relative to the National Standards for Level 3
Learn new teaching sequences and improve movement analysis skills
Feel more confident an his/her ability to self-assess both teaching and skiing
WHY: Exams measure quality and ability, but until now there has never been an education course that could measure your progress during an event. This course can be a tool for measuring your progress towards your certification goal. No matter where you work and how much or little access to training you may have, if a few seasons—even less— pass without developing a truly accurate assessment of your abilities, then this course is for you.
HOW: You will be examined and assessed in a rigorous and authentic exam environment on day one. Day two you will be coached in the areas that need improvement, directly related to your performance in the exam, and be given direction on how best to proceed in your professional development, in order to achieve your professional goals.
Participants should expect to be assessed day one on their:
teaching (at least one approx. 20-minute segment), at the level of the group,
skiing (free runs, a series of four benchmark activities, teaching segment demonstrations), and
technical knowledge (based on peer interaction and conversations with your examiner).
