The Level 1 exam is designed as the first step in the certification process. The weekend gives instructors an opportunity to have their skiing, teaching and technical skills evaluated against National PSIA Standards for Level 1 certification. The candidate will receive a written evaluation at the end of the weekend. Why: The Level I exam gives the candidate an opportunity to learn collaboratively with the PSIA-C education staff as well as other candidates. The Level I exam is the beginning step in the exam process for instructors who wish to expand their teaching careers. The candidate has the opportunity to enhance their teaching, skiing and technical skills. How: The exam consists of two days. Day 1 consists of a clinic lead by an education staff member to demonstrate teaching skills for beginning skiers using the Y-Model and skiing skills from first turns to basic parallel. Day 2 is an exam based on the format learned in day one. In Day 2 an education staff member will evaluate the candidates skiing skills, teaching skills and technical skills against PSIA National Standards for Level 1. Canceled due to low participation numbers.    What: The Snowboard Level 1 Exam is the first step in the certification process and gives the candidate an opportunity to have their riding, teaching and technical skills evaluated against AASI Level 1 National Standards. Why: The Level I exam gives the candidate an opportunity to learn collaboratively with the AASI-C education staff as well as other candidates. The Level I exam is the beginning step in the certification process for instructors looking for professional certification. How: This is a two-day clinic and exam. Day one is a clinic format to review AASI riding tasks and teaching concepts used to introduce new riders to the sport. Day two examines candidates on their ability to teach and ride various tasks used in an introductory snowboard lesson. The written exam is given on Sunday morning. *The Children’s Specialist 1 Workbook must be completed prior to registering for the event.  What: This assessment‐based certificate course is offered to PSIA/AASI certified instructors. The course will help you understand how children; think, feel about themselves, interact with others, and move as they grow and develop. You will see how this understanding can be creatively applied to Beginner/Novice into Intermediate Zone lessons. You will have the opportunity to share your knowledge with the group and compare it to the CS National Standard*. Why: Be “that guy/gal”. You know the one. The instructor having fun with a bunch of laughing kids around them while providing a truly inspired safe, fun and educational experience. In this course, you will learn the skills that instructor possesses so you too can be recognized for your education, experience, and expertise in teaching children snow sports. How: Participants will need a copy of the Children’s Instruction Manual, 2nd Edition, and watch Playful Teaching to complete the Workbook. The workbook must be completed prior*** to registering for the event . The course is designed around the concepts and knowledge gained by doing the workbook and will be reviewed and practiced, during the first part of the event. Each participant will apply this knowledge including current children’s snow sports trends to a PSIA-AASI-C Child Development Level(s) in the second part of the event. This event consists of three two – hour sessions in an e-learning format utilizing video segments of skiers at various levels of development, MODDS movement analysis model, voice interaction and prescription for change. Participants will observe and learn from the Ed Staff facilitator in session one, contribute to movement analysis through Ed Staff guidance in session two and develop movement analysis followed by prescription for change and lesson/coaching development in session three. This event will be held over a course of 3 consecutive Wednesdays from 8:00pm – 10:00pm Eastern Time. Positioned between every guest and the resorts strategic visionaries are the Front-Line staff that communicate (and sometimes translate) the message; those who see, hear, and share the guest experience. How does your resort ensure that the vision and intent of your leadership retain fidelity when delivered by your staff? What tools do you have for learning about guest desires and expectations? Participants will explore the means to identify, train, evaluate and motivate front line managers. Peppered with data regarding Leisure Intent and Leisure Constraint, this program will speak to the communications pathways that can strengthen your awareness of guest interactions, and ensure your message is present in your staff. What: The guest-facing role of the front line, and how Front Line Management skills can improve guest relations. Why: Front Line Managers are often promoted from the line itself, with little-to-no managerial training. For mid-level Managers and Directors, those responsible for hiring front line staff and staff leads, learning to train your leads to lead can affect service, morale, and retention. How: exercises, dialogue, discussion in a webinar format over 3 evenings. This “Skier Update” will pull from a number of Central’s Skier Update courses such as Experienced Instructors Experience, Skiing Fundamentals, Teaching Great Teaching, Etc. to create a diverse and educational clinic for members. What content the clinic covers will be heavily influenced by the participant’s questions and skiing goals.
