Intro to Tourism:
What: Tourism is a science (not a verb). In this course we will look at “leisureism”, and the gap that occurs between intent and activity. We call this gap “leisure constraint”, and the process by which people navigate constraint is “negotiation”. Our group will understand why people do, and do not come out to ski and snowboard- and how we can influence their decision-making process.
How: A combination of dialogue, research, data analysis, and industry statistics. Online discussion will be vigorous, and reflective. Participants must be prepared to candidly discuss their resorts key strengths and weaknesses, and should open a dialogue with their marketing departments to understand their primary and secondary audience.
Why: Growing the sports of skiing and snowboarding requires innovative thinking, awareness of past campaigns and future opportunities. Individuals who approach tourism and Leisureism scientifically really can effectively stimulate increased participation.
Who: Directors, Managers, Influencers, Tourism and Recreation majors.
